One of the best parts about visiting new places is discovering new foods. From Beaver Tails to Tim Hortons, these famous Canadian dishes and places are things I definitely wanted to try and they did not let me down!
- Beaver Tails
The name does sound a little strange, but I can assure you that this glorious fried dough is game-changing. The dough is shaped into the tail of a beaver, giving its name and can be topped with multiple additions such as chocolate and fruit. However, I prefer the original with cinnamon and sugar, as it tastes like a never ending churro and what could be better than that?
- Poutine
It’s delicious. Although a lot of my friends find the concept of fries, gravy and cheese churds completely wrong, I on the other hand think it’s genius. Adding cheese to a dish makes everything better and the Canadians agree too. What I find even more amazing is that you can find poutine almost anywhere in Ottawa; with dedicated restaurants such as New York Fries, food stalls on the road or you can even add it your McDonalds meals. Why just have regular fries, when you can have poutine?
- Tim Hortons
I’m not sure this is a delicacy, but as I can’t buy this back home in England (I’m not one of the lucky few from Manchester or Glasgow) I think this still counts. I have finally mastered my Tim Hortons order of a medium French Vanilla and a chocolate glazed doughnut. With there being a Tim Hortons on almost every street corner, I have finally had to learn how to restrain myself. But the Canadian founded restaurant is definitely worth the hype, especially with the genius concept of Timbits (the holes that are taken out from the middle of the doughnuts and customers are able to buy).
