Falling for Niagara Falls

Visiting one of the seven wonders of the world was definitely going to be one of the moments I had two write about (N:B I’m sure someone has made this cheesy title before, but I just had to as well!). Niagara Falls has been one of my favourite destinations to visit so far on my study abroad semester. It’s not like visiting a big city or a hot country and it was definitely an exciting trip!

The day began with a Tim Hortons in hand (a French Vanilla obviously), ready to ride the two hour bus from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Once we got there we decided to endure the thirty minute walk from the bus stop to the falls. Although we regretted the decision at first, it was quite extraordinary walking up to falls slowly and taking it all in.

Niagara Falls is made up of three water falls; the American falls, the Bridal Veil falls and the Horseshoe falls. You get to see each one as you walk along the path, taking pictures with the numerous tourists. However, the horseshoe falls is the real star of the show at the end of the path and the pictures just don’t do it justice.

We also took a Horn-blower boat trip, which is a fifteen minute ride around the Horseshoe falls, (the journey definitely has Little Mermaid /two vibes, with being in the water and the birds flying around!). As you get further within the falls its time to put your cameras down and appreciate the moment, as it becomes very misty and there’s a lot of water raining on you!

Finding a place to eat near the falls was certainly not a hard task. Less than a ten minute walk away are numerous amusement-park-themed shops and restaurants. There are a number of activities, from cinemas, gift shops and haunted houses to visit too. But if you’re hungry why not have a Burger King with Frankenstein?

The day ended with another Tim Hortons (yep, twice in one day) and trying to catch a glimpse of the falls lit up before getting the bus back to Toronto. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to see the falls completely in the dark, but we did get a sneak peek of the pink lights turning on!
