Regina: Feels like home

Being in my third month of my exchange here in Canada, I was definitely starting to have some moments of homesickness. I was starting to miss being around my family and friends, not living in a dorm and I was really craving a home cooked meal.

When it was time to visit my family in Regina, Saskatchewan I was more than ready to reconnect with my relatives. As soon as I landed, I immediately felt looked after and welcome in this new city.

There were various great moments from my trip, but the most exciting was definitely going to see the family restaurant I have heard so much about! The restaurant – Flavours of India, was extremely inviting and was clearly popular, with numerous locals enjoying their meals. Having a tour of the kitchen was my second favourite part after trying the food. Anyone who knows me knows Indian food is not always my first choice for food, as I am not much of a spice fan. But trying dishes from both the Indian and Indochinese menu definitely changed my mind. Especially as the dishes I tried, an Aaloo Tikki followed by Chicken Chilly and Chicken fried rice were made to a mild spice level (thanks again guys!).

Spending time with my cousins was one of my favourite parts on this trip, especially being able to explore everything together in a smaller city like Regina has to offer. Travelling within the city was certainly shocking as you can drive to the supermarket, cinema or even my cousin’s university in under fifteen minutes. Also vising the stunning Legislative Building is a must do in Regina as well as shopping at the Cornwall Centre.

I was certainly spoilt on this trip and I can’t thank my relatives enough for letting me be the fifth member of their family for a few days!
